Child Care Learning and Development

Course Overview

Are you great with kids? Do you want to be? Have you always wanted to work with children, but didn't know where to start?

If so, you've come to the right place!

Our acclaimed Child Care Learning and Development course enables anybody who has an interest in working in the childcare sector to gain a formal professional qualification that is recognised throughout the industry. Better still, this fantastic course requires no previous experience, just a passion for the subject!

Course Structure

Whether you are a parent wanting to gain more understanding of their child's development needs, a social worker seeking further expertise in dealing with family situations involving children, or a professional educator needing to broaden knowledge of their charges' psychology, this is the course for

you.

A glance at the titles of the individual modules (click the ‘Course Outline’ tab above) shows you just what this fantastic course is about. It covers in some detail all of the various needs of children, including their physical needs such as the types of food that are best for them (and nutritional guidelines), the benefits of adequate rest and sleep, and common childhood illnesses . . . through to their psychological needs – love, security, positive reinforcement of behaviour – and education.

The course goes on to explore issues surrounding behaviour management, child abuse and the legal framework, and your roles and responsibilities as a care provider, counsellor or parent. It also discusses and informs on the complexities of the various agencies and legislative frameworks in place to protect children. There is even a module; "Support for Childminders" which details how to protect yourself and your family from allegations.

Students undertaking the course for professional development will also need to complete an additional CWDC (Childcare Workforce Development Council) listed qualification, such as an NVQ, but the course includes all the knowledge required for that. Students only then need to undertake the practical workplace assessment to become fully-qualified.

Course Materials

One of the key benefits of studying with My Distance Learning College is that, unlike other distance learning providers, we deliver the entire package of course materials in a single dispatch. This enables our students to get a real feel for the overall structure and content of the course, and chart their progress much more effectively. The modular method of delivery favoured by other providers fragments the learning process and actively prevents students from moving faster through sections they are more confident with, or taking more time over the deeper concepts that require more thought and comprehension.

PLUS: Students of My Distance Learning College automatically get FREE access to the acclaimed “I Learn It Easy” coursework management system, which makes submitting assignments, getting feedback and critique, and interacting with other students on the course for mutual support, an absolute breeze! Push-button simplicity . . .

Level 3 NCFE Accredited Qualification

The course is accredited by NCFE, who are an awarding body regulated by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, The Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales, and the Council for Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.

The course meets the Level 3 NCFE criteria, and can be completed in 12 months. Qualification is achievable by even the busiest professional, and because of its modular construction could probably even be squeezed in to the schedule of a full-time homemaker or single parent with a little reorganisation.

Although, there are no entry requirements the course, the course is at Level 3, so you do need a reasonable level of literacy to be able to both understand the concepts introduced, and get the most out of the materials.

No Final Exam!

If the prospect of exams frightens the life out of you, there is even more good news. There is no final exam!

The low price of the course includes dedicated tutor support, regular critique and feedback, and all assignments are marked by one of our professional tutors. You can even pay by instalments if funds are tight.
