Health and Social Care
Course Overview
Want to become a SOCIAL WORKER, HEALTH VISITOR or CARER? Got your sights set on becoming a NURSE or PARAMEDIC?
If the answer to any of the above is "yes", or you just want a deeper knowledge of the Health and Social Care environment, then clicking through to this page could be the best decision you have made!
Why do I say this? Well, many of our students have told us it's the best Health and Social Care Course they've ever seen, and we certainly know it's one of the most popular of them produced. It's absolutely ideal for anyone wanting to work in the health and social care fields, and is regarded as almost a sabbatical for those already working in a related field who need a stimulating refresher. The course covers a wide variety of issues facing those in the helping professions, from personal development to mental health.
What will I Learn on the Course?
The course follows a logical "life progression" structure familiar to all of us, beginning with child development, moving through discussions around the concept of "health", including common diseases and illnesses like cancer, the effects of drug and alcohol both on the body and in the wider sphere of their impact on society, and the mental health issues associated with all of these.
Within the "health" section, we also explore the symptoms and treatment of the various conditions mentioned and many others, the importance of nutrition, and the physical and emotional effects of eating disorders.
Legislation
The issue of legislation affects us all in every aspect of our lives, and the caring professions have more than their fair share of applicable rules, regulations and legal compliance requirements. There is a dedicated section which demystifies the relevant legislation affecting those working in the health and social care fields, and how those laws influence both policy and practice within the sector.
The NHS
One of the most interesting modules for many students is that dealing with our National Health Service (NHS). Love it or loathe it, the NHS is at the core of the nation's care delivery, but very few people today know very much about its history or the way it works. This module unravels some of the myth and mystery surrounding our much-slated but generally-admired organisation, how it has evolved and grown since its creation and some of its most significant developments, successes and operational strategy.
Finally, the course deals with the role of the childcare and education sectors, and the control, coordination and administration operations delivered by OFSTED in its role as the regulator.
Course Materials
One of the key benefits of studying Health and Social Care with My Distance Learning College is that, unlike other distance learning providers, we deliver the entire package of course materials in a single dispatch. This enables our students to get a real feel for the overall structure and content of the course, and chart their progress much more effectively. The modular method of delivery favoured by other providers fragments the learning process and actively prevents students from moving faster through sections they are more confident with, or taking more time over the deeper concepts that require more thought and comprehension.
